PCI-DSS Compliance

All merchants that utilize bankcards (credit cards) to collect funds must meet Payment Card Industry standards regarding securing personal and credit card information. For specific information, guidelines and compliance criteria, go to: www.pcisecuritystandards.org

 

ISO PCI Compliance and Incident Handling Guidelines

The University Information Security Office has established policies and security breach guidelines that will assist the departments with meeting their security goals. View the ISO Policy and Guidance here.

 

Suspected security breach incidents must be collected and reported to both the Information Security Office and Campus Banking and Merchant Services. To submit an incident report, complete the ISO Security Incident Report Form.

 

Credit Card Fraud Prevention

The best fraud prevention is your employees. Awareness is the key to preventing fraud from occurring. The following steps will help stop credit card fraud:

 

• Make sure the name that prints on the receipt matches the card member name on the front of the card.
• Match the embossed card number on the front of the card to the number on the back of the card.

A card may have been altered if you see one or several of the following things on a card:

 

• Painted or taped over signature panel
• A "halo" of previous name or number can be seen where the card may have been re-embossed
• Card surface looks dull or lacks detail
• Card surface is bumpy or bent around the edges
• Magnetic stripe is deliberately scratched or destroyed

If you suspect that you may have a customer standing in front of you who may be attempting a fraudulent transaction, contact the merchant authorization number to discuss the suspected situation, and alert management and follow the security policy established by your department.
